Privacy Policy
MyTube is operated by Tran Huong. This policy explains what data is processed when you use the MyTube app on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Both versions are the same product and share the same backend service; where the two platforms differ, this is stated.
1. Data stored on your device
MyTube does not require an account. Favorites, in-app playlists, watch history, recent searches, and appearance choices are stored on your device using operating-system storage — Apple storage technologies on iOS, a local app database on Android. A random client identifier used for service quotas is also stored on the device until you delete the app's data.
The app temporarily caches read-only YouTube responses on the device. Depending on the content, cache entries expire after about 30 minutes to 7 days and may be removed earlier by iOS or Android when storage is needed. The YouTube API key is excluded from cache keys.
On Android, your watch queue, daily plan, saved progress, and timestamped notes are also stored locally. You may explicitly export notes as Markdown or your library as a JSON backup, and preview and import a backup through the Android file picker. Exported files can contain video titles, YouTube links, notes, queue and plan entries, progress, favorites, and playlists. They do not contain your random client identifier, purchase status, or advertising preferences. MyTube does not automatically upload or synchronize these files. If you choose a cloud storage provider in the file picker, that provider processes the file under its own policy.
2. MyTube API service and YouTube
Browsing and search requests first pass through a Cloudflare Worker operated by Tran Huong, then go to the YouTube Data API. The request contains the search term or required content identifiers, region/language, app bundle identifier, and the random client identifier described above. Cloudflare also receives ordinary network metadata such as the IP address under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
The service protects the YouTube API key, validates requests, caches shared read responses, and enforces daily quotas. It hashes the IP address before storing a daily network quota counter. Client and hashed-network quota counters reset at the next day boundary in the service's Pacific time zone. Shared caches retain search responses for 6 hours, popular videos for 30 minutes, most other responses for 1 hour, and category/channel responses for 7 days; comments are not cached. Operational logs added by MyTube contain only the endpoint, cache status, and aggregate quota/circuit events—not search terms, content identifiers, IP addresses, client identifiers, or the API key. Cloudflare may separately process standard request metadata under its own policy.
Video playback uses the official YouTube IFrame Player inside a web view. Google/YouTube may receive ordinary network information such as IP address, cookies, diagnostics, and playback interactions under the Google Privacy Policy and YouTube Terms of Service.
Cookies set by that player are only kept between sessions if you allowed tracking in the App Tracking Transparency prompt (see section 4). If you did not allow tracking, the player runs in a non-persistent web session: cookies are discarded when the app closes, and any website data stored earlier is deleted.
3. In-app purchases
The “Remove Ads” purchase is processed by the platform store: Apple through the App Store and StoreKit on iOS, Google through Google Play Billing on Android. MyTube only reads store-verified product and entitlement status to decide whether ads should be shown. The app does not receive or store card numbers, payment details, Apple ID passwords, or Google Account passwords.
Purchases in the two stores are separate transactions: an App Store purchase does not carry over to the Android version or the other way around, because MyTube has no user account to link them.
4. Google AdMob and consent
If you have not purchased “Remove Ads,” MyTube uses Google Mobile Ads to display one banner anchored at the bottom of the screen, and a full-screen (interstitial) ad after a search. Depending on your region, consent choice, and device settings, Google may process IP address, advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android), device information, diagnostics, and ad interactions. MyTube uses Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request consent and provide privacy choices where required by law. MyTube does not sell your personal data.
App Tracking Transparency. On the first launch, after the Google UMP consent form, iOS asks whether MyTube may track you across apps and websites owned by other companies. If you allow it, the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) may be used for personalized ads, Firebase may send ad-personalization signals, and the YouTube player may keep its cookies between sessions. If you decline — or have not answered yet — all ad requests are sent as non-personalized, ad-personalization signals are turned off, and the player keeps no cookies between sessions. You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Declining does not limit any feature of the app. If you purchased “Remove Ads,” no ads are shown, you are not asked for tracking permission, and no tracking takes place.
5. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics
MyTube enables Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics when the app starts. Analytics automatically receives app lifecycle and session events, in-app purchase events, approximate region, app/device details, and a random app-instance identifier. MyTube manually logs at most two feature events, neither with parameters: whether playback actually started from saved progress (both platforms), and whether the Continue Watching shelf was shown (iOS only). MyTube does not set a user ID or send video IDs, titles, playback position or duration, favorites, playlists, watch history, or search terms as custom Analytics data.
Crashlytics receives crash logs, stack traces, app state, app/OS versions, device type, storage and memory information, and installation identifiers needed to group and diagnose crashes. Crash reports may include recent generic Analytics events as breadcrumbs, but MyTube does not add user IDs or content details to them. Google processes this data under the Google Privacy Policy.
6. Retention and deletion
Library and history data remain on your device until you delete them in the app or uninstall the app. You can clear recent searches, history, favorites, and playlists from their respective screens. Device and service caches and quota counters expire as described above. Firebase Crashlytics retains crash reports and associated identifiers for 90 days before beginning removal. Google Analytics user-level and event-level retention is limited by the property setting to no more than 14 months; standard aggregate reports may be retained longer. Apple, Google Play, AdMob, YouTube, Cloudflare, and other Google data follow their respective retention policies.
Android automatic backup and device transfer are disabled for MyTube's local app data. Files you explicitly export remain in the location you choose after you clear app data or uninstall MyTube. To delete those copies, remove them from that location, including any cloud storage provider you selected.
7. Your privacy choices
You can change advertising choices through the in-app privacy options when available, use iOS privacy/advertising settings or the Ads section of Google settings on Android (reset or delete the advertising identifier), purchase “Remove Ads,” delete in-app data, or uninstall the app. Advertising choices do not disable Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics. Uninstalling removes MyTube's local app data, while data already sent remains subject to the retention periods above. Because MyTube has no account and does not expose Firebase installation identifiers, the operator generally cannot identify an individual Analytics or Crashlytics record from an email address. You may use the contact below for privacy questions. Declining personalized advertising does not disable browsing, search, library, or history features.
